Spring Convening, “Centering Racial Justice and Health Equity: The Power of
Communities to Shift Climate Policy and Practice,” held April 17-19, 2023
in San Diego, California, brought together grantees and partners to learn
and share about the powerful work taking place across the initiative at the
intersection of climate change, health, and equity. Sessions showcased
several techniques and tools to advance effective storytelling as part of
policy advocacy efforts. Downloadable resources, presentations and videos
from the event are available on the convening web page.

*EDUCATION PROGRAM*
*Social Media Takeover: DCAN celebrates students choosing to further their
education *

The Detroit College Access Network (DCAN) and Detroit Promise will be
celebrating the city of Detroit's Class of 2023 as they prepare for a major
milestone: graduating high school. To highlight students' path after high
school, whether that is college, trade school or career program, the
organizations are hosting a 2023 Decision Day celebration for seniors in
the city featuring special guest performances, appearances from local
elected officials and recognition for schools reporting the highest FAFSA
completion rates. Join DCAN on Friday, May 12, as they take over Kresge's

*HEALTH PROGRAM **|* *SOCIAL INVESTMENT PRACTICE*
*Report explores emerging models of community ownership and equitable
access to capital *

A new report from the Inclusive Capital Collective and Roanhorse Consulting
examines the growing trend of community ownership and its potential to
overcome systemic racism through equitable access to capital. The authors
explore established and emerging models of community ownership, including
community land trusts, cooperatives, neighborhood real estate investment
trusts, community stewardship trusts, community investment trusts and
mixed-income neighborhood trusts, along with the strengths and challenges
of each.

*Kresge Eminent Artist Melba Joyce Boyd honored in short film, virtual
celebration*

Dr. Melba Joyce Boyd, an award-winning poet, essayist and scholar, was
recently honored in a virtual celebration

her naming as the 2023 Kresge Eminent Artist. The event, organized by
Kresge Arts in Detroit, included the debut of a short film

her life and career, and Boyd performing her poetry in collaboration with a
live jazz band. There were also remarks by Boyd and leaders from Kresge,
the College for Creative Studies and Kresge Arts in Detroit.

*$200,000 | 2023 | Health Program *
This grant will provide operating support to Fair Food Network (FFN), one
of the nation's leading food policy and program delivery organizations. FFN
pioneered Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) incentives,
which increase the buying power of SNAP recipients to purchase fresh
produce, creating the dual benefits of improved health and stronger local
food economies.
