Subject: Gather this Thursday, July 13 to Protest Lead in Durham Parks
To: Brandon J. Williams <brandonjhudson at gmail.com>

Hello Walltown neighbors and Durham residents,

James Chavis and residents from the East Durham community are gathering in
front of the Durham County Health Department this Thursday, July 13 from
9:30am to 11:30am to peacefully protest the conditions and response to lead
contamination in several Durham parks. Please support and attend as you are
able.

*Background Information*

   - On Monday, June 12, the Walltown Community Association hosted a
virtual community meeting to share the findings from Duke researchers
regarding dangerously high levels of lead in Durham parks (you can access
the recording of that meeting here <https://youtu.be/6h6FSTwQjek>).
   - On Thursday, June 29, the City of Durham held a community meeting
   (view recording here
   <https://www.youtube.com/live/TY9l1yzobM8?feature=share>) where staff
and representatives from Mid-Atlantic Associates (the firm conducting an
assessment of the soil in Walltown, East End, East Durham, Lyon, and
Northgate parks) offered information about the actions being taken in
response to the Duke research and timeline for reporting back to the
community. You can access the City's website for this project here
   <https://www.dprplaymore.org/516/Soil-Property-Testing>).
