Nourish! Mindful Eating for the Beloved Community on Oct. 28

DCoDPH, Aetna partner for event at Durham Center for Senior Life

Durham, NC - BCAGlobal will collaborate with Durham County Public Health and Aetna to create a community wellness event "Mindful Eating for the Beloved Community,"<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mindful-eating-for-the-beloved-community-tickets-728911482867> on Saturday, October 28, 2023. The sole purpose is to support wellness in the community, with generous support from Aetna, a CVS Health company.

BCAGlobal<https://bcaglobal.org> has created a new approach to disrupting the current lack of awareness, cultivating a healthy focus on food and working to reconnect food to family, community, culture and faith.

Jim Bostian, Aetna's North Carolina President, said, "We're part of the Durham community, and we give back through events like this because Healthier Happens Together. Aetna partners with local health organizations, nonprofits and local leaders to support healthy living and improve social, economic and health care outcomes."

Mindful Eating for The Beloved Community<https://www.eventbrite.com/e/mindful-eating-for-the-beloved-community-tickets-728911482867> explores the need to adjust our personal patterns of eating that often leave us undernourished, both physically and spiritually. "Food Equity is tied into all things economic, community, productivity and profitability," comments Alex Askew, President BCAGlobal.

The event will be held at the Durham Center for Senior Life, 406 Rigsbee Ave., from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with food, giveaways, mindful movement, health screenings and more.

In today's changing and challenging environment, health equity in the community remains an unaddressed crisis with fewer resources and tools to empower communities. Supporting the MEBC initiative not only increases understanding of the health disparities that exist, but also provides an action plan for families to improve their health and create sustainable results. Community partners for this inaugural event include: Durham County for Public Health, Aetna, Project Health, Durham Center for Senior Life, Seeds, and BCAGlobal.
