November’s “In Touch with Durham County” Features DCoDPH Director Jenkins, Human Resources’ Gonzales

On this month’s episode<https://youtu.be/GTuPCLY-Nrw>, co-hosts Board of County Commissioners’ Chair Brenda Howerton and Durham County Communications Chief Deborah Craig-Ray, welcome Durham County Department of Public Health (DCoDPH) Director Rod Jenkins and Deidre Gonzales, Durham County Human Resources Manager for Benefits and Talent Acquisition.

In our first segment, Jenkins returns to discuss the County’s ongoing efforts to help the community stay safe from the COVID-19 virus, as well as being prepared for flu season. Jenkins, who guided the health department and Durham County through the coronavirus pandemic from the beginning in 2020, discusses why it’s important to get both your COVID-19 and influenza vaccines and just how safe each is. He also engages in conversation about DCoDPH’s<http://www.dcopublichealth.org> award-winning efforts to help all of us get and stay healthy.

Segment two sees Gonzales makes her debut on our show and she joins us to show how our organization supports its employees. Gonzales starts off talking a little bit about herself before delving into one of the things that makes being a public servant for Durham County Government so attractive – the competitive salary and benefits of working here. She chats about some of the recent initiatives by County Manager Dr. Kimberly J. Sowell and the Board of County Commissioners in raising salaries and improving benefit options.
