Most Durham County Government Offices to Close for Winter Holidays on Dec. 25-27 and Jan. 1

Durham, N.C. - Durham County Government will close most offices in observance of the winter holidays from Monday, December 25 through Wednesday, December 27, 2023. All offices will reopen with their normal hours of operation on Thursday, December 28. County government offices will also close in recognition of the New Year's Day holiday on Monday, January 1, 2024, reopening with normal hours on Tuesday, January 2.

Durham County General Services
Convenience Sites
The Durham County General Services Department will close the three Solid Waste and Recycling Convenience sites on December 25, 26 and 27, as well as January 1. Durham County residents with a current 2023-24 solid waste decal can dispose of garbage, recycling, yard waste and bulky items at the County's Convenience Sites during their regular schedules<https://www.dconc.gov/county-departments/departments-f-z/general-services/solid-waste-recycling-and-litter-control/durham-county-convenience-sites>.

Roadside Recycling
The Durham County curbside recycling schedule for customers, in unincorporated areas of the County, who normally have theirs picked up on December 25 will be collected on Saturday, December 30. Customers who normally have their recycling picked up on Monday, January 1, will be collected on Saturday, January 6.
All residents are reminded to set out their recycling bins before 6 a.m. on the day of pickup, to avoid a missed collection. Residents who want to keep track of their recycling collection schedule should download the "Durham County Recycles" mobile application. Residents can download the mobile app for free on Apple devices in the App Store<https://apps.apple.com/app/id1481279900> or Android devices in the Google Play Store<https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gov.dconc.recollect.waste>.

Durham County Sheriff
Durham County Sheriff's Office Patrol Division, as always, is available 24/7. The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will be closed December 25-27. It will reopen with normal hours on December 28.
The Sheriff's Administration and Records Division will also be closed on Monday, January 1, and reopen on Tuesday, January 2.

Durham County Library
All Durham County Library locations will be closed from December 23-27 for the winter holidays, reopening on Thursday, December 28 with normal hours<https://durhamcountylibrary.org/hours-and-locations/>. All library locations will also be closed from Saturday, December 30 to Monday, January 1, and will reopen for normal hours on Tuesday, January 2.

Durham County Public Health
The Durham County Department of Public Health will follow the Durham County Government winter holidays closing schedules.
For Public Health emergencies during the holiday closures, including communicable disease reporting, environmental health and suspected foodborne illnesses, please call 911 and ask for the Durham County Department of Public Health's response team member on-call.

Durham County Social Services
On December 25-27, the Durham County Department of Social Services (DSS) will close its offices for the winter holidays, reopening on Thursday, December 28; as well as Monday, January 1, for New Year's Day, reopening on Tuesday, January 2.
Residents are encouraged to call 919-560-4600 to reach an on-call social worker to report child abuse and neglect. Call 984-243-1280 to report adult abuse and neglect to an on-call social worker.

Durham County Cooperative Extension
The Durham County Cooperative Extension will be closed from December 25-27 for the winter holidays. The Extension will reopen with normal business hours on Thursday, December 28. The office will also close on Monday, January 1, for New Year's Day and reopen on Tuesday, January 2.

Board of County Commissioners
The Durham Board of County Commissioners' first Work Session of the New Year will be held at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2. This is a change from the normally scheduled first Monday of the month due to New Year's Day. The first Regular Session of 2024 will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, January 8. All meetings are held in Commissioners Chambers, 2nd Floor of the Administration I Building, 200 East Main Street.
