Hello Durham Environmental Coalition,

Per today's monthly meeting, here is more information about the proposed Moriah
Energy Center.

Dominion Energy is proposing to build a liquified
natural gas (LNG) plant in Rougemont, about 2 miles north of the Durham County
line and in the Durham watershed. On December 4th, 2023, the Board of
County Commissioners voted to approve the project over the recommended
disapproval of the county's planning board and widespread local
opposition.

Due to the amount of types of air pollutants that will be
emitted by the plant and its potential impacts on water quality
and quantity in the region (including Durham), it will need permit approval by
the NC Department of Environmental Quality.

If you would like to follow this issue more closely, you can sign up
for updates
at the local group that is opposing the plant: NoMEC

More information (mostly from fall 2023 when the public was informed about the
project)
