[Durham INC] Draft February INC minutes

Hello, Pat and all,
There is a note in the draft minutes that “Work on lead in the parks is going forward.” I am an active participant in the neighborhood coalition working on this issue. We talk about “incinerator contamination” and “coal ash” in the parks, because more hazards than lead are in the parks. Even with the skimpy testing Mid-Atlantic did for the City, we now know that there is arsenic, chromium, manganese and more.

I wasn’t at the last meeting, and your minutes are probably accurate as to the way the issue was framed. I just want to point out that though the City wants to keep limiting the conversation to “lead”, the reality is that these coal-fired incinerators left behind ash containing an array of hazards in addition to lead.

This is no knock on your minute-taking! I appreciate your on-going service to INC very much.

There is also an INC Facebook page.  In the long term, we might want to look issues such as having better back-up for various jobs.  The point is to get more people (and new neighborhoods) coming to meetings, whether the meetings are in person or on zoom or hybrid; if it is in person, it helps to have food to get people to come and also pick topics / meeting objectives where being in person is most useful.  With the better weather coming up,  could we do a community picnic or block party or something fun?
