Davis Returns to “In Touch with Durham County”

June’s show focuses on DCo Register of Deeds and ‘Hacking Into History’ project

Durham, N.C. – The June edition<https://youtu.be/iBrSi3E9vDY> of the “In Touch with Durham County” show from the Durham County Public Information Office continues to bring residents of our community important information on our programs and services. Our goal is to have great conversations with our Durham County staff, and community partners so that we can share valuable information about our programs and services.

On this month’s episode<https://youtu.be/iBrSi3E9vDY>, our host Durham County Chief Communications Officer Deborah Craig-Ray welcomes Durham County Register of Deeds Sharon Davis to our TV studio.

The show is available to watch on the DCo YouTube channel (subscribe here<https://youtu.be/daSS63qpQjg>); as well as on the Durham County Government website<https://www.dconc.gov/county-departments/departments-f-z/public-information/the-durham-county-government-show> and the Durham Television Network<https://durhamnc.gov/1104/Durham-Television-Network>.

Davis, one of two Durham County department directors who also serves as an elected official, returns to the show to talk all about the great things going on in the Register of Deeds office. During segment one, she discusses the various duties that her staff do for Durham County residents daily – including issuing marriage licenses, providing copies of birth and death certificates, and other vital records. Being this is her first appearance on our show since the COVID-19 pandemic, Davis goes into detail about her office’s duties during the time period, as well as how they navigated a malware attack that hit the organization around the same time.

In segment two, Davis chats about the “Hacking Into History” initiative that Assistant Register of Deeds James Tabron was heavily involved with in the last couple of years. This community-driven effort showed the history of racial covenants in Durham County’s vast library of deeds and exposed the long-lasting impacts they had and continue to have on our community. She also talks about how the information will be used to educate and inform for years to come.

We hope you enjoy the show<https://youtu.be/iBrSi3E9vDY>!
