City of Durham Announces Service Changes for July 4



DURHAM, N.C. - Most City of Durham offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency City facilities and operations, will close to the public on Thursday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day.



Solid Waste Holiday Schedule

  *   The Solid Waste Management Department<https://durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management> will close on Thursday, July 4.
  *   Curbside collections for garbage, recycling, and yard waste will be delayed by one business day. Friday yard waste customers will receive their curbside collections on Monday, July 8.
  *   The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center<https://durhamnc.gov/898/Disposal-Facilities> will be closed on Thursday, July 4. The facilities will reopen Friday, July 5.
  *   To sign up for collection day alerts and reminders for holiday service changes, visit the department's webpage<https://durhamnc.gov/3025/Find-Your-Collection-Day> or download their free Durham Rollout smartphone app<https://www.durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management>.


Parks and Recreation

  *   Durham Parks and Recreation<https://www.dprplaymore.org/> (DPR) administrative office and facilities will be closed on Thursday, July 4.
  *   Athletic fields and picnic shelters are available for rent. Outdoor pools and spraygrounds will operate under their regular schedules.
  *   DPR is hosting a July 4th Celebration<https://www.dprplaymore.org/calendar.aspx?EID=5372> with the Durham Bulls. Gates will open for general admission at the end of the 7th inning based on availability for those that would like to view the fireworks show from inside the Durham Bulls Athletic Park. Fireworks will begin at approximately 9:15 p.m. Purchasing tickets to the game is encouraged and ensures a spot inside the ballpark to watch the fireworks. Viewing sites outside of the ballpark include: the grassy area behind Diamond View 3, Burt's Bees outside of the North Deck, Tobacco Road Sports Café, and Ponysaurus Brewing. Downtown Parking

  *   The Park Durham Customer Service Center<https://www.parkdurham.org/> will close on Thursday, July 4.
  *   On City-designated holidays, downtown parking is free in on-street parking spaces, in some City-owned parking garages, and in City-owned surface parking lots.

Water and Sewer Emergencies

  *   Water main break<https://durhamnc.gov/1344/Report-Water-Main-Breaks> and sewer overflow<https://durhamnc.gov/1346/Report-Sewer-Overflows-Backups> calls for service placed after-hours, on weekends or on City-recognized holidays should be directed to the Water Management Department's after-hours emergency number at (919) 560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews.
