Cooperative Extension Seeks Applicants for Master Food Volunteer Program

Durham, N.C. - Are you passionate about food, community service, and making a meaningful connection to other residents? The Durham County Cooperative Extension has a new and exciting opportunity for residents - the Extension Master Food Volunteer (EMFV) Program. This initiative is aimed at bringing together people who share a love for food and a commitment to service our community.

The EMFV Program is designed for individuals who want to make a difference in the communities of Durham County through food-related activities and service. Whether you are an experienced home cook, a nutrition enthusiast, or simply someone who enjoys the connection made while sharing meals, this program offers a unique way to share your passion and skills. Volunteers in the program will receive specialized training in food and kitchen safety, nutrition, food preparation, and more.

"This is a new and exciting opportunity to serve the Durham County community with culinary and nutrition outreach," said Cheralyn Berry, Extension Agent for Family Education. "The EMFV Program is an example of the work the Extension and Durham County Government are doing to fulfill their commitment to developing a just food system that is better for the planet and works to end food insecurity."

To apply for the program, interested individuals are required to attend an information session to learn more about the program, meet Extension staff, and get their questions answered. The session will cover an overview of the program, volunteer expectations, and how to apply. A limited number of applicants will be accepted to the EMFV program, which will begin in January 2025.
