Pesticide Collection Day on Oct. 16

Cooperative Extension, NC Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service hosting free event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Durham, N.C. - The North Carolina Department of Agriculture and Consumer Service<https://www.ncagr.gov/>, in cooperation with the Durham County Cooperative Extension<https://durham.ces.ncsu.edu/>, will be offering a free Pesticide Collection Day for residents in Durham and surrounding counties on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This event will be held at the Cooperative Extension offices, located in downtown Durham at 721 Foster Street.

During this Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program (PDAP)<https://www.ncagr.gov/divisions/structural-pest-control-and-pesticides/pesticide/pesticide-environmental-programs/pdap> event, nearly all pesticide products will be accepted, including banned and outdated pesticides. For liquid pesticide containers larger than 5 gallons or for unlabeled pesticides, please contact John Lyttle<mailto:john_lyttle at ncsu.edu> at the Cooperative Extension Office for information before bringing them to the collection event. No gas cylinders are accepted at the event; however, assistance information can be provided.

The PDAP's focus for this event is designed to assist agricultural producers, farmers, and homeowners. Collecting from pesticide dealerships, dealers, and businesses would overburden the program's budget. If in doubt, contact Lyttle<mailto:john_lyttle at ncsu.edu> prior to the collection day to discuss individual situations for potential assistance.

Below are several frequently asked questions (FAQ) about the event:

  * Event time: Pesticide Collection Days are always 10 a.m.-2 p.m. with no breaks.
  * ETA: We will arrive sometime between 8:30-9:30 a.m. to set up and will not close until at least 2 p.m.
  * Materials Accepted: Our Contractor can only accept pesticides - if in doubt, contact us.
  * Materials NOT Accepted: We cannot accept pressurized cylinders, minibulk/IBC containers, or unknown materials, or other non-pesticide items at the event - if in doubt, contact us before the event for assistance/options.
  * Bulk Liquids: Any material container over 5 gallons in size requires pre-approval from our Contractor. Contact us before the event for assistance/options.
  * Pesticides from outside the County: Yes, pesticides can be brought to Collection Day from surrounding counties.
This FAQ will be updated online<https://durham.ces.ncsu.edu/2024/09/pesticide-collection-day-wednesday-october-16/> if necessary.
