Phase II of the Neighborhood Bike Routes Project<https://www.durhamnc.gov/3763/Neighborhood-Bike-Routes> launches later this week with an online survey available on the project webpage as well as an opportunity to speak with the City of Durham's Transportation staff at an upcoming community event.

Neighborhood bike routes or bike boulevards are designed to improve roadway safety and make it easier for residents to reach popular destinations. Currently, signs and pavement markings identify neighborhood bike routes on seven miles of existing roadways. Phase II proposed routes on 24 streets would add approximately 11 miles to the existing network and would connect to landmarks such as North Carolina Central University and the American Tobacco Trail.

Residents can weigh in on proposed routes through an online survey, which opens on Wednesday, January 1 on the project webpage<https://www.durhamnc.gov/3763/Neighborhood-Bike-Routes>. Responses are due by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, February 7. A map<https://www.durhamnc.gov/DocumentCenter/View/58268/Neighborhood-Bike-Routes-II-Map?bidId=> of proposed routes is now available online. Traffic circles and curb extensions will be used at some locations to help slow speeds and prioritize bicycle and pedestrian roadway safety. Construction could begin as soon as Fall 2025.

Proposed streets for Phase II Neighborhood Bike Routes include:
Maryland Avenue
Stephenson Street
Lincoln Street
Lakeland Street
Morning Glory Avenue
Englewood Avenue
Juniper Street
Massey Street
Ridgeway Avenue
E. Main Street
Iredell Street
Bivins Street
Colfax Street
Grant Street
Cleveland Street
W. Knox Street
W. Enterprise Street
Linwood Avenue
Ramseur Street
W. Corporation Street
Lavender Avenue
E. Umstead Street

Elm Street

Transportation staff will also answer questions about the project on Saturday, January 11 at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. event<https://www.dprplaymore.org/Calendar.aspx?EID=5847&month=1&year=2025&day=11&calType=0> at W.D. Hill Recreation Center. Staff will be available from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to talk about potential locations and design concepts.

Since 2019, Transportation staff have managed the installation of seven miles of bike routes spanning Watts Street, Glendale Avenue, and Arnette Avenue among other locations.

Phase II design, engagement, and construction are possible through the City's Capital Improvement Plan.
