the entrance to the Fayetteville corridor and was recently sold to a developer for $63M. This area is extremely rich in Durham history – much of the historic Hayti area was lost to the freeway and other changes. Hayti Reborn started in 2021 with community
meetings, engaging those who had been affected by urban “renewal.” They participated in the Durham Housing Authority’s discussions about plans for the area, but DHA rejected Hayti Reborn’s proposal for how the remaining area that was Hayti should be used.
What DHA is proposing is basically more gentrification and Hayti Reborn will have actions in response to DHA’s proposals, for which they would appreciate our support. The Hayti Reborn Project’s website is

homes and businesses and is part of a broader Solarize the Triangle (https://www.solarcrowdsource.com/campaign/the-triangle/). It makes getting solar more affordable and less complicated. The discounts are now about 25% off and get better as more people
sign up. The campaign ends December 31, but there will likely be another round next summer. The City and County appropriated money to support solar for low-wealth households. They are also working with other organizations when retrofits are needed to make
the homes ready for solar (more energy efficient, better roof, and so on). Using solar addresses climate change, reduces and stabilizes utility bills, and increases the value of the home. The NC Supreme Court says homeowner associations can’t block solar,
the tax credits have gotten better, and rates / usage keep going up. Tobin’s contacts are

Mimi Kessler moved to approve the resolution (see Appendix) about the revised bylaws, Tom Miller seconded, and by voice vote the resolution passed unanimously (with one absence). The committee was thanked. </span></p>

<span style="font-weight:700">Watts Hospital - Hillandale </span><span>had a Board of Adjustment case today about whether a 9-story hotel is compatible with the small houses near it, but the Board could not muster a quorum. In the process of developing their
case, they discovered the Planning Department has, for 10 years, been letting developers in non-residential districts choose which frontage to which they want the requirements about street yards to apply.</span></p>

<span style="font-weight:700">Old Farm</span><span> had a very successful National Night Out. They had a parade earlier this summer to celebrate the 104th birthday of a resident. Also the Kings moved to the neighborhood in 1968 so they have also been recognized.
The new Northern High School campus will be next to Old Farm, and the association is talking to the school board about the current plan to route all the school buses through the neighborhood and generally have a thoroughfare through the neighborhood to the
school; the state never funded the Hebron Road Extension, which would have solved the problem. Everyone is working on finding a better plan and they will let us know through the list-serve of any actions to support them. The neighborhood is also meeting with
Durham Parks and Recreation about renewing Old Farm Park. </span></p>
