<div dir="ltr"><div>I took a training from You Can Vote the other day about helping people register and vote. <br></div><div><br></div><div>The kernel I learned is this: If a voter does not have an ID that is authorized (most employment and all college IDs are acceptable), they can go to the poll and fill out a form that explains why they do not have a picture ID. The form includes a long list of reasons that are acceptable including health problems, transportation, and more. </div><div><br></div><div>So if anyone is concerned that they will not be able to vote, please tell them the ID thing isn't as terrible as we thought. We should encourage them to go vote. <br></div></div><br><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr" class="gmail_attr">On Mon, Sep 25, 2023 at 8:38 PM Pat Carstensen <<a href="mailto:pats1717@hotmail.com">pats1717@hotmail.com</a>> wrote:<br></div><blockquote class="gmail_quote" style="margin:0px 0px 0px 0.8ex;border-left:1px solid rgb(204,204,204);padding-left:1ex"><div class="msg-5542882613598723204">

After 5 days of early voting, 1842 people have cast votes at early voting. This is a Durham City Municipal election, the number of registered voters in Durham County is approximately 204,000 and about 90% of the residents of Durham County live in the city,
so I am guessing this is a turn-out of about 1% so far. Therefore, we will most likely beat Charlotte's 5% turnout (which obviously isn't saying much!)</div>

The folks checking you in may ask what year you were born in before they ask your address, especially if you have a common name like John Williams. Every year there is a mix-up or 2 of members of the same household (dad has voted but Junior is the one marked
in roles as having voted), and they are hoping this will reduce the errors. I guess at least some people are more embarrassed at giving their middle name than their birth year anyhow (-:</div>
