City of Durham Begins Oval Drive Park Renovations

Construction Already Under Way; Scheduled Completion May 2008

Durham, N.C. - Renovations to the City of Durham's Oval Drive Park have
now begun and residents are encouraged to use other neighborhood
alternatives until construction is completed this spring.

According to Henri Prosperi, senior project administrator with the
City's Department of General Services, the north side of the park is now
closed due to construction, which is slated to run through May, and
residents should use other nearby parks for their recreation needs in
the interim. "The best neighborhood alternatives are Indian Trail Park,
Westover Park, which has a newly finished playground, as well as Belmont
Park" Prosperi said. "The south side of Oval Park will also remain open
during the construction process, so residents can enjoy this alternative
as well."

Funding approved in the 2005 Bond Referendum is being used to complete
the park renovation. Construction renovation plans as well as
landscaping plans are available on the Watts Hospital-Hillandale
Neighborhood Association's Web site at
www.rtpnet.org/whhna/parks.php#oval. Information regarding this project
can also be located on the City's Web site at
www.durhamnc.gov/cip/ProjectView.cfm?vAcctNo=94.

Prosperi at (919) 560-4197, extension 253 or via e-mail at
