Thanks to everyone who wrote the county commissioners
regarding the Epcon development (on Farrington and
751). Please see the attached message providing an
update of last night's BOCC proceedings regarding the
Epcon development.

The development team had ONE YEAR to meet with
neighbors and to accommodate the Planning Department's
(and PC's) requests/requirements for approval. Yet in
the face of citizen awareness and opposition, they
scrambled to request a deferral, which was granted
(for two cycles, at that), to hammer out some
undisclosed committed elements. Last night's decision
only discourages citizen involvement and rewards
inadequate development plans. Epcon should have been
sent back to the drawing board.

I am left wondering at how the PC and Planning Dept
decisions seem to carry far less weight when they
recommend denial, rather than approval, of a
development plan. No wonder Durham has trouble getting
development teams to submit complete, detailed plans
and to acquiesce to planning's and citizen's concerns
and requests.

I hope that you will continue to voice your concerns
regarding this development to the BOCC, until the
decisions are finally made.

Frustrated,
Melissa
