DURHAM COUNTY SEEKS LOCAL CITIZENS TO OVERSEE ADULT CARE HOMES

The Durham County Adult Care Home Community Advisory Committee (CAC) is in
great need of new members. This 13 member committee of local citizens has
the responsibility of developing community awareness of adult care home
needs, acting as a grassroots advocate for residents in long term care and
for ensuring freedom of residents’ rights. This group is one of a number
of advisory boards and committees appointed by the Durham County Board of
Commissioners.

Committee members make official quarterly visits to each adult care home
in Durham County and develop reports as required by the NC Division of
Aging and Adult Services. During the visits, members try to talk with
residents and their families regarding any concerns they may have. Any
information received is treated confidentially. Special training is
provided for new committee members so that they will fully understand the
duties and responsibilities of this position.

As Durham County grows, so does the need for strong oversight of the
increasing number of adult care facilities. The Durham County Board of
Commissioners is seeking candidates who will make the commitment to
fulfill the extraordinary tasks of this critical committee.

Those interested in an appointment must meet the following conditions:

·         Must not be employed by an adult care home.

·         Must not have any direct or indirect financial interest in an
adult care home.

·         Must not have a family member currently in a facility.

·         Must not be a resident of a facility.

For additional information about this committee, contact the Triangle J
Area Agency on Aging Ombudsman Program at 919 558-2711.

If you would like to apply for a possible appointment by the Durham County
Board of Commissioners, contact Vonda Sessoms, Clerk to the Board at 919
560-0025 or via email at vsessoms at durhamcountync.gov
