Durham Fire Department Offers Free Blood Pressure Checks Feb. 12-14
Department Launching "Prepare Your Heart for Valentine's Day" Campaign
Durham, N.C. - As Durham residents prepare to celebrate Valentine's Day
next week, the Durham Fire Department (DFD) wants residents to remember
their heart health by taking advantage of free blood pressure checks.
Tuesday, February 12 through Thursday, February 14, from 10 a.m. to 4
p.m. daily, DFD firefighters will be administering free blood pressure
screenings at Northgate Mall's Food Court, located at 1058 W. Club
Blvd., Durham.
According to Bruce Pagan, chief of the DFD, his department is offering
free screenings because of overall concern about the health of Durham
residents. "Taking care of your heart is more important than most
people know. According to the American Heart Association, too few
people realize that heart disease is the number one killer of American
women and men," Pagan said. "In our efforts to provide continual,
quality customer service, we wanted to reach out to our residents with
information about the dangers of heart disease and how to spot the
warning signs of a heart attack or stroke."
For additional information about the DFD's "Prepare Your Heart for
Valentine's Day" Campaign, contact Capt. Angelica Stroud, community
relations coordinator and public information officer with the DFD, at
(919) 560-4233, extension 242 or via e-mail at
