Durham's Finance Department Receives Awards for Sound Fiscal Management

Durham, N.C. - The City of Durham's continued dedication to fiscal
responsibility and oversight was recognized recently with two awards for
the City's Department of Finance.

The City's Purchasing Division with the Department of Finance was
recently awarded the 2007 Sustained Professional Purchasing Award (SPPA)
for demonstrating sustained excellence in purchasing standards during
the calendar year. The SPPA is the highest award a purchasing
department or division can obtain within the Carolinas Association of
Governmental Purchasing (CAGP). In addition, Purchasing Manager Joseph
W. Clark was awarded both the status of "Lifetime Certified Local
Government Purchasing Officer" and "Purchaser of the Year" by the CAGP.

The CAGP, an affiliate of the National Institute of Governmental
Purchasing, is an organization committed to the professional development
of all governmental purchasing personnel in North and South Carolina.
Established in 1952, this association has a membership of over 500
government procurement professionals in North and South Carolina.

The City's Department of Finance also received the North Carolina State
Treasurer's Governmental Award for Excellence in Accounting and
Financial Management for the City's Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
ERP integrates all City departments and functions onto a single computer
system, enabling City employees to be more efficient and provide better
customer service to Durham residents.

According to City Manager Patrick W. Baker, these awards further
illustrate the City's sound fiscal responsibility to its citizens.
"These are very prestigious awards and clearly demonstrate the City's
commitment to sound financial practices and excellent stewardship of
taxpayer dollars," Baker said. "I'm very proud of our Finance
Department for receiving such high achievements and for being recognized
by their peers for the work they do each day to help keep this
organization running smoothly."
