African Dinner-Dance Party and fundraising event to fight malaria!

Hosted by the Bonjour Africa Malaria Project

Each year Bonjour Africa Malaria Project (BAMP) holds an annual dance party
featuring African food and
music with educational outreach about the malaria problem in Africa. All
proceeds go directly to purchasing effective, lie-saving malaria
interventions and delivering them for free directly to African children and
youth through a community-based healthcare network in Linguere, Senegal.
 
       African Music with WNCU DJ Bouna Ndiaye
       Dance performances from Collage and Paso y Paso
       Full African dinner buffet
       Beer and wine available
       Silent auction for special gifts and prizes
       Remarks from local dignitaries and Nobel Prize-winning scientist Dr.

Today in Africa, many children get sick with malaria and can¹t afford the
medicines they need to treat it. Many of these children will die nearly
3,000 a day according to the World Health Organization. Many lives could be
saved there and there are ways to prevent malaria and effective treatments
for those who become infected.

The City of Durham Parks and Recreation Department in partnership with Keep
Durham Beautiful will host the largest Earth Day Festival in the Triangle.
The festival will be held from 12 p.m. - 6 p.m. at Durham Central Park (502
Foster Street). In addition to great music and food, Earth Day participants
will participate in "green" activities and learn about the many solutions to
the environmental problems we are facing. Best of all, admission is free at

'CHANGE COMES KNOCKING'

Durham producer Rebecca Cerese has made a documentary film on the history of
the North Carolina anti-poverty movement. It includes interviews with Howard
Fuller and Ann Atwater. Atwater will be part of a panel discussion after the
film. Director Rebecca Cerese will be in attendance

Art Makes a Difference: The Sixth Annual MOMart Show

A well-attended fundraiser and art show with many eager philanthropists and
patrons, is a two-day event, always the weekend before Mother's Day. This
year's event will be held on Friday, May 2, and Saturday, May 3, at the
Carolina Outreach building, 2670 Durham Chapel Hill Boulevard, Durham (the
old Elk's Lodge, right next to Foster's Market). Participating artists are
asked to donate a minimum of 25% of their total sales. Friday we will host a
preview party, charging a cover at the door, all of which is donated to
Carolina Outreach. All day Saturday is a free open house that features
outdoor arts and crafts such as container gardens, plants, sculpture, and
garden art in addition to the jewelry, paintings, stained glass,
photography, textiles, and pottery participating artists will be selling.

This year's recipient is Carolina Outreach Foundation, an organization that
works with families of children with behavioral, emotional, and mental
health challenges to provide them opportunities for recreation, vocational
