Durham Completes First Floor and Begins Second Floor City Hall
Renovations Soon

Renovated First Floor Offices Open May 19; Temporary Locations of
Multiple Second Floor Departments Effective May 27 


Durham, N.C. - With renovations to the first floor of Durham's City Hall
nearing completion and as Phase II of the renovation project gets under
way for the second floor, residents are asked to take note of multiple
location changes for several City departments.

 

On Monday, May 19, the newly renovated first floor offices of City Hall
will reopen, with the below departments now permanently located in the
following areas:

 

Permanent Department Locations on 1st Floor of City Hall (left side of
building from the Main Entry on 101 City Hall Plaza) 

*         Business License Office in the Treasury Management Division
with the Department of Finance. This office's contact information will
remain the same at (919) 560-4700 (phone) and (919) 560-4842 (fax).
Employee e-mail addresses remain the same.

 

*         Revenue Collection Division (Cashiers Office) with the
Department of Finance. This division's contact information will remain
the same at (919) 560-4351 (phone) and (919) 560-4889 (fax).  Employee
e-mail addresses remain the same.

 

*         Customer Billing & Services Division with the Department of
Water Management. This division's contact information will remain the

The Durham One Call Information Desk and other lobby renovations will be

During Phase II of the renovation process, which is scheduled to begin
in late May and last approximately two months, the following departments
will have new locations effective Tuesday, May 27, either inside City
Hall or off-site at the Qualex Building, located at 3404 North Duke
Street, Durham.  The Qualex Building has on-site parking and is also
accessible via Durham Area Transit Authority's (DATA) Route 4.

 

Temporary Department Locations on 3rd Floor of City Hall (left side of
building upon exiting the elevators)

*         Office of the Mayor is moving from the 2nd floor of City Hall
to the 3rd floor of City Hall.  Contact information for the Office of
the Mayor will remain the same at (919) 560-4333 (phone) and (919)
560-4801 (fax).  The mayor and his support staff e-mail addresses will
remain the same.

 

*         Office of the City Clerk is moving from the 2nd floor of City
Hall to the 3rd floor of City Hall.  The office's contact information
will remain the same at (919) 560-4166 (phone) and (919) 560-4835 (fax).

*         Office of the City Attorney is moving from the 2nd floor of
City Hall to the 3rd floor of City Hall.  The office's contact

Temporary Department Locations on 4th Floor of City Hall (right side of
building upon exiting the elevators)

*         Offices of the City Council are moving from the 2nd floor of
City Hall to the 4th floor of City Hall. Contact information will remain

officials and employee e-mail addresses will also remain the same.

 

Temporary Department Location at Qualex (3404 North Duke Street)

*         Office on Youth, a division of the City Manager's Office, is
moving from the 2nd floor of City Hall to Qualex.  The division's
contact information will remain the same at (919) 560-1328 (phone) and
(919) 560-1341 (fax).  Employee e-mail addresses remain the same.

 

Access to the Council Committee Room on the second floor will remain
open to the public throughout Phase II of the renovation project.
Persons with disabilities should continue to use the main entrance of
City Hall.  A representative from Durham One Call will also remain in
the lobby to assist residents and visitors.

 

During the renovation process, parking on City Hall Plaza will remain
extremely limited.  Residents and visitors should park at the Chapel
Hill Street Parking Deck, located across from City Hall and the U.S.
Post Office.  If parking is not available, Central Parking will direct
motorists to the closest garages, lots and on-street parking to
accommodate their parking needs.

 

In January 2008, two City departments permanently moved into the Venable
Business Center, located at 302 East Pettigrew Street, Durham.  The
City's Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD) and the
City's Office of Equal Opportunity and Equity Assurance (EO/EA) are now
located in Suite 190 and Suite 180 respectively. The phone and fax
numbers for both departments remain the same with the OEWD at (919)
560-4965 (phone) and (919) 560-4986 (fax) and EO/EA at (919) 560-4180
(phone) and (919) 560-4513 (fax).  Employee e-mail addresses for both
departments also remain the same.

 

As promised to City of Durham citizens during the 2005 bond referendum,
the City is using voter-approved funds to renovate City Hall, resulting
in an improved building to more effectively serve residents, visitors
