Oh, if you are interested in expressing an opinion to one of the businesses, this is where you can make comments to one of the businesses that spoke against the reconfiguration

Please be nice. Regards, pat

Admittedly most of the detailed cases are from big west coast cities, but the surveys say that such reconfigurations increase employment, investment, etc. http://www.smartgrowthamerica.org/research/safer-streets-stronger-economies
There was a very misinformed letter to the editor in the Herald Sun on Monday from William Bowling that assert that there is "bumper to bumper traffic" on this stretch of road. I don't know what alternative reality this guy lives in, but I usually see more traffic on West Club than I see on this part of Business 15-501. http://www.heraldsun.com/opinion/letters/x219732101/Letters-to-the-Editor-June-1

Same way it does on Main St.
More on street parking, bike lanes to encourage more folks to get there without cars, cars not speeding down that stretch at break neck speeds, etc.

Wondering how the diet will improve parking or help us get out of parking lots??

Incredibly important point Don.
The road diet will transform that stretch from highway to enjoyable road. I've often NOT stopped at restaurants or shops there dreading how I'd get out of the parking lot (Pennies for Change), find a parking space (Guglhupf, Nana Taco), or look at the cars zooming by (Fosters).

15-501 is going to get repaved by NCDOT. That's a given. The only question is how the paint is applied. No other construction will happen, so the disruption that occurs will be the same for either option.

It's important that people who have strong feelings about this let others know--council, yes, but also the businesses along there need to hear from their customers who either support or oppose the change.

Good point Reyn. Making disruptions minimal should be a high priority. But the potential for disruptions alone shouldn’t be the reason to shelve this proposal
 altogether.

I agree but I also know how hard transitions such as this are on small businesses due to disruptions. It isn't the end result that is costly but getting there.

Hillandale improvements a few years ago killed a lot of businesses and others are just beginning to recoup.

Anything the city can do to minimize disruption during the transition is crucial.

Be sure to read the comments from concerned citizens at the end of this article from the N&O. 15/501 between Chapel Hill Road and University Drive is disaster. There is nothing
desirable about that corridor, from a commuting standpoint. It’s a raceway, and way under capacity. With limited public funds, this is likely the only opportunity for the foreseeable future to make a positive difference there. Don’t know why businesses
think that they will suffer. If it’s more attractive to more people because of these improvements, I could see business getting better. Ask Geer St Garden, the Pit, or Torero’s Pizza how their business survives without a 4 lane highway in front of it.
