Durham County seeks student art designs to help market the new Canine Waste Ordinance

Durham, NC - April 27, 2016 - Durham County Government's Public Information Office is asking students in first (1st) through eighth (8th) grades to submit artwork for the "Clean Up After Your Canine or Face a Fine" design contest. The contest will start May 9th and run through May 27th. The deadline to submit all artwork is 4 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016. County Commissioners recently approved a new ordinance requiring dog owners to pick up their pet's waste from public spaces.

The winning artwork will be selected by the Durham County Board of Commissioners and announced at the June 13th meeting. Additionally, the winning artwork will be printed on official County publications for the Canine Waste Ordinance public education campaign.

Contest submission rules:

  *   Entries must be submitted by 4 p.m. on Friday, May 27, 2016.
  *   Students must be residents of Durham County and must be in first (1st) through eighth (8th) grades.
  *   Only one entry can be submitted per student.
  *   Entries can be mailed or hand-delivered to the Durham County Manager's Office Attn: Public Information, 200 East Main St. , Durham NC 27701
  *   All submissions to the contest will become the property of Durham County.
  *   All artwork submitted must have a signed permission form attached.

Entry Specifications:

  *   The art must be the student's original work.
  *   The two-dimensional image should not be larger than 8½ inches x 11 inches in size and must be in color.
  *   The image should convey the theme of "Clean Up After Your Canine or Face a Fine."
  *   All submissions must be in landscape orientation.
