I do not have the energy or spirit to jump back into Durham development issues right now. But for those who may be following the amendment below:

Can this mass-grading amendment (TC1600006) be re-written to require mass-grading buffers "to the maximum extent permitted by NC law’ (rather than specifying specific measurements)?

If so, wouldn’t this mean Durham’s mass-grading buffers would automatically increase when the state increases their requirements again (and they will, it’s just a matter of time).

And, therefore, wouldn’t Durham be able to by-pass the often onerous bureaucratic and political process (as well as Durham taxpayer dollars and citizens' time and energy) required whenever citizens seek to increase (or re-increase) protections like these.

It would also indicate (at least to me) that Durham supports soil and water protections, even if the state of NC does not.

Interested in people’s thoughts…
Melissa (Rooney)
