Please forward on to your neighborhoods (unless it's one of the few I
already send to):

It's our Grand Opening! Come and get your locally grown food and plants
at the Durham Roots Farmer's Market at Northgate Mall (Gregson Street
entrance) on Saturday, April 22nd from 8am to Noon! Durham County's
Farmland Preservation Board initiated the Durham Roots Farmer's Market
at Northgate because preserving Durham County's farms means providing
more sales opportunities for Durham County farmers and
horticulturalists. We heartily welcome everyone from small and beginning
to large and established producers, as well as church, school, and
community gardens.

Come and meet our new market manager, Fran Castillo, and check out our
new website at http://www.durhamroots.org/. Northgate Mall's Esmerelda's
Cafe will be selling coffee & pastries from Ninth St Bakery, and we'll
also have live music, a cooking demo, and fun giveaways.

Confirmed vendors for Saturday include:

Architectural Trees - cucumber, tomato, & pepper starts, hanging
baskets, baby fig bushes, spice bowls, coleus, impatiens, geraniums, a
few young dwarf Japanese maples, dwarf ginkgo trees

Bull City Farm - Animal Welfare Approved locally raised meats

Chickpea Farm - leaf lettuce, kale, spinach, radishes, turnips, snap
peas, eggs

Dandie's Farm - green leaf lettuce, radish, kale, spinach, rainbow
chard, spearmint, & vinca 4 packs

Jubilee Family Farm - tomato starts, herb starts, pepper jelly, bamboo
stakes

Prodigal Farm - will have many beautiful goat cheeses: the nationally
award-winning Field of Creams; Candide; Hunkadora; Piedmont Provencal;
marinated feta; fresh goat cheese (plain and sundry flavors); and a
variety of cuts of pastured, Animal Welfare Approved goat meat

The above lists are always subject to change, and some products are in
short supply. Enter Northgate at the Gregson Street entrance near the
theaters and you'll see the market on the right. Hours are 8am to noon
on Saturday.

After the Market head to the Plaza at Northgate for the Wonders of
Learning/Scrap Exchange Materials Day. This all ages crafting event will
feature make and take crafts, more live music & food trucks.

We love animals, but please -- no pets at the market (service animals
are OK)!

Please come out and support our vendors and Durham's farmland
