East Main Street Waterline Replacement Project Update and Two-Week Look Ahead

August 24, 2017

Improvements to the City's waterline infrastructure will continue along the East Main Street corridor.  Additional information regarding this project can be found at: http://durhamnc.gov/3001/East-Main-Street-Waterline-Replacement.

Planned Road / Lane Closures will occur as follows:

  *   Week of 8/28:
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers on East Main Street between Roxboro Street and Fayetteville Street, Hood Street, and South Elizabeth Street.
     *   Lane closures on Angier Avenue between East Main Street and Elm Street.
  *   Week of 9/5:
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers on East Main Street between Roxboro Street and Fayetteville Street, Hood Street, and South Elizabeth Street.
     *   Lane closures on Angier Avenue between East Main Street and Elm Street.

Saturday-Sunday August 26-27, 2017:

  *   No work is planned for Saturday, August 26th or  Sunday, August 27th.

Week of August 28, 2017:

  *   Sidewalk/curb replacements and abandonment of existing waterlines in East Main Street between Roxboro and Fayetteville streets, Hood Street, South Elizabeth Street, and Ramseur Street will continue.
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers will be used to maintain traffic at isolated locations in the project area.
     *   Through traffic on East Main Street will be maintained.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.
  *   Stormwater installation will continue on East Main Street between South Elizabeth and Hood streets.
     *   Lane shifts and flaggers will be used to maintain traffic at stormwater crossing locations on East Main Street.
     *   Through traffic on East Main Street will be maintained.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.
  *   Waterline service reconnections in Angier Avenue between East Main Street and Elm Avenue will take place.
     *   Service switchovers will be coordinated with each affected customer seven days in advance of work taking place.
     *   An eastbound lane closure on Angier Avenue will be required to complete the work.  On-street parking will be closed in the vicinity of the work.
     *   Noise levels in excess of the current City noise ordinance are anticipated during work hours.
     *   Pedestrian and driveway access to buildings / facilities will be maintained at all times.
  *   Sanitary sewer investigations will be completed in East Main Street between Roxboro and Fayetteville streets, Hood Street, South Elizabeth Street, and Ramseur Street.
     *   Temporary lane shifts and closures will be used to access existing sanitary sewer manholes.
     *   Non-toxic dye will be used to verify active sanitary sewer service locations.

Saturday-Monday September 2-4, 2017:

  *   No work is planned for Saturday, September 2nd through Monday, September 4th.

Week of September 5, 2017:
