Durham Publishes Strategic Plan Progress Report
Bi-Annual Update on Citywide Measures Shows 45 Initiatives Now Completed

DURHAM, N.C. - Are you curious about how many economic development incentive agreements were approved to promote capital investment and job creation? What about the number of rental housing created or rehabilitated in the city limits? Ever wonder how often the City's drinking water standards are met? Get updates on indicators like these and more in the recently published City of Durham Strategic Plan Progress Report<http://durhamnc.gov/183/Strategic-Plan>.

As part of the City's continuing commitment to transparency and accountability, this 12th bi-annual report gives an update on how the organization is achieving the goals and initiatives outlined in the City's Strategic Plan, which is the organization's business plan that establishes priorities and objectives while defining selected actions within the financial limits set by the City Council.

Over the past two years, the City has successfully completed 45 initiatives, including the opening of the Development Services Center<http://durhamnc.gov/3038/Development-Services-Center> to provide a one-stop-shop development review process as well as allocating an additional $3.6 million from the City's fund balance for more street repairs to improve the pavement condition rating.

According to Assistant Director of Strategy & Performance Josh Edwards with the City's Budget & Management Services Department, the completion of these 45 initiatives shows the organization's commitment to making the needle move on action items that will result in better quality of life for many Durham residents. "Many of these initiatives over the past two years needed new funding, so it shows our commitment to strategically using dollars to better align what we do with our Strategic Plan," Edwards said. "Funding alignment is critical since this plan serves as our road map, pointing this organization from its firm foundation to become the leading city in providing an excellent and sustainable quality of life."

This award-winning interactive site and progress report allows residents to easily view advances made on citywide measures and initiatives as well as view positive and negative trends. The progress report delves into each of the City's five goals ― Strong & Diverse Economy; Safe & Secure Community; Thriving, Livable Neighborhoods; Innovative & High Performing Organization; and Stewardship of the City's Physical & Environmental Assets.

The International City/County Management Association (ICMA) recently recognized Durham for superior performance management efforts with a Certificate of Excellence<https://icma.org/certificates-performance-management> by using performance data in strategic planning and online dashboard reporting. Durham was among 25 jurisdictions in the United States receiving this highest level of recognition.

The interactive and printable progress report is now available on the City's website<http://durhamnc.gov/183/Strategic-Plan> and is updated each March and October. For more information, visit the City's website<http://durhamnc.gov/183/Strategic-Plan> or contact Edwards at (919) 560-4111, ext. 20102 or Josh.Edwards at DurhamNC.gov<mailto:Josh.Edwards at DurhamNC.gov>.
