Chair Jacobs Nominated to NACo’s Community, Economic and Workforce Development Steering Committee

Durham, N.C. – President of the National Association of Counties (NACo) Greg Cox has announced that Durham Board of County Commissioners Chair Wendy Jacobs has been nominated to the Community, Economic and Workforce Development Policy Steering Committee. Committee membership at the national level is a serious commitment and responsibility and it is also a rewarding experience. According to President Cox, “the expertise and engagement for our steering committee members is a main reason why Congress and federal agencies often look to NACo for feedback on legislative policy decisions being made in Washington, D.C. This nomination to a NACo steering committee also presents great opportunity to share with and learn from your county colleagues.”

As a member of the Community, Economic and Workforce Development Policy Steering Committee, Jacobs is expected to participate in conference calls and attend both NACo's Legislative Conference held in Washington, D.C. in March 2019 and NACo’s Annual Conference in Clark County/Las Vegas during July 2019.

“I look forward to continuing my work as an active member of the national Community, Economic and Workforce Development Committee and representing Durham County in this capacity,” said Jacobs. “My priorities on this committee include promoting affordable housing and work-based learning, internships and apprenticeships to strengthen our education to work pipeline. I am pleased that a resolution I put forth with the help of Durham Housing Authority Director Anthony Scott to support affordable housing was adopted by the National Association of Counties in July 2018.”

Jacobs will also get the opportunity to work on this year’s NACo presidential initiative: “Connecting the Unconnected: Counties Linking Residents to Services,” which will explore ways county governments are connecting residents in the spirit of building healthy, safe and vibrant communities.
