City of Durham Announces Service Changes for Martin Luther King Jr. Day



DURHAM, N.C. - Most City of Durham offices, including City Hall and all non-emergency City facilities and operations, will be closed to the public on Monday, January 15 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.



Solid Waste Holiday Schedule

  *   The Solid Waste Management Department<https://www.durhamnc.gov/832/Solid-Waste-Management> will be closed on Monday, January 15.
  *   All collection services will be delayed by one business day.
  *   The Waste Disposal and Recycling Center, Yard Waste Facility, and the Household Hazardous Waste Center<https://www.durhamnc.gov/898/Disposal-and-Drop-Off-Facilities> will be closed on Monday, January 15.

City Council Meeting

  *   The City Council regular business meeting<https://www.durhamnc.gov/Calendar.aspx?EID=8754&month=1&year=2024&day=16&calType=0> is re-scheduled for Tuesday, January 16 beginning at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers at City Hall.

Parks and Recreation

  *   Durham Parks and Recreation<https://www.dprplaymore.org/> (DPR) administrative office and all facilities will be closed on Monday, January 15.

  *   The department will host MLK Event: Remembering the Legacy through the Arts<https://www.dprplaymore.org/Calendar.aspx?EID=4614&month=1&year=2024&day=13&calType=0> on Saturday, January 13 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at W.D. Hill Recreation Center, 1308 Fayetteville St. This free public event will commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Downtown Parking

  *   The Park Durham Customer Service Center<https://www.parkdurham.org/> will be closed on Monday, January 15.
  *   On City-designated holidays, downtown parking is free in on-street parking spaces, in some City-owned parking garages, and in City-owned surface parking lots.

  *   Water main break<https://durhamnc.gov/1344/Report-Water-Main-Breaks> and sewer overflow<https://durhamnc.gov/1346/Report-Sewer-Overflows-Backups> calls for service placed after-hours, on weekends or on City-recognized holidays should be directed to the Water Management Department's after-hours emergency number at (919) 560-4344, which will dispatch on-call crews.
