Hello to all,

Thanks for the responses received so far - they are very helpful. If you
haven't weighed in yet (email below), please do - your input would be
appreciated!

One last minute add to the mix of courses is described as follows. Does
this one "float anyone's boat"?

Health and Safety Management - With An International Focus

Health and Safety management has moved in a new direction over the past
decade; away from a specification based compliance strategy, to a
performance based, management systems focus. The international community
is quickly embracing this new approach. However many companies here in
the US remain focused on the traditional and often ineffective strategy
of code compliance. This session will provide an overview of current
management systems consensus standards, such as ANSI Z-10 and OHSAS
18001 that can be applied to your operations today, and how these are
increasingly becoming the law of the land internationally. The
introduction of these approaches solves many of the difficulties found
in traditional approaches to health and safety management, but requires
greater diligence to be proactive in assessing and managing risk. In
addition the presentation will include some real world perspectives from
a Health and Safety practitioner responsible for operations across the
globe.

Thanks,

Dick

Subject: EHS SCHOOL SAFETY TOPICS

The MCIC EHS School course development committee would like a little
feedback on the topics aligning as the top picks for the safety courses.
They are:

1. NFPA 70 (and recent 2009 changes)

2. OSHA Global Harmonization System of Classification and Labeling

3. "IH for the Non IH"; (weaving in any new developments in the
evaluation/control of occupational contaminants in the work environment)

4. "Combustible Dust" (OSHA and NFPA driven requirements and
establishing an effective program to deal with them)

5. "Intro to Control Banding and Nanotechnology" (the effect of
multiple contaminants, some w/o established TLVs for the workplace and
how limits for exposure should be established)

6. "The New OSHA-Changes in the Federal Administration and What is
Down the Road for NCOSHA" (Alan McNeeley).

They are not in any particular order. Would you please force rank them
as courses that either you would attend or send someone to attend? Also,
there may be enough time to create a course so if you really would like
to see another topic please describe one for us.

Also - the school is scheduled for August 23,24 - please make plans to
attend.

Thank-You!

Dick McDonald
