Barry: Your reply is very thoughtful and does advance a clear argument for 
supporting this project. At the same time, I don't think reducing the 
position of those of with reservations about is to playing a "zero sum" 
game is quite fair. I'm not necessarily opposed to this park--a regional 
park would be a nice thing. But at what point do we stand up and resist 
incessant sprawl and growth and demand attention to established, developed, 
and under funded and under served urban neighborhoods? As someone pointed 
out in a posting within the last couple of days, the fact that there are 
neighborhoods out there to organize is itself a by-product of sprawl and 
development. And what you call a "zero sum" game can also be seen as (and 
I'm just speaking for myself here) always being asked to defer and postpone 
getting the needs of urban neighborhoods more adequately met in the face of 
some pressing need for more something--schools, parks, sewer and water 
lines, whatever--brought on by development.

Whatever the outcome on this whole park issue, I think the underlying 
issues deserve more attention and discussion.
