Anonymous tips from customers are important to investigating potential energy theft. Energy theft can be an indicator of other possible criminal activity. Call 911 if you suspect other criminal activity.

The following signs could indicate meter tampering and/or energy theft:

a.. Meter upside down, meter seal broken, meter ring or meter lid missing.
b.. A person other than an Duke Power employee or contractor is working on the meter installation, digging near underground lines or tampering with power lines.
c.. Someone is bragging about how low their energy consumption or energy bills are because of their meter.
If you notice any suspicious activity or a meter that shows signs of tampering, please call 1-800-653-5305 to report suspicious activity anonymously. Working together we can see that energy theft is minimized, therefore reducing the risk of injury to the public as well as minimizing energy costs for other customers.
