Donating In-kind Items (including furniture and appliances) and Stores that
Resell Items as Fundraisers for Non-profit Organizations

This list gives a brief description of non-profit groups¹ purposes that
accept used things and new basic necessities (including their high priority
needs.)  The information about in-kind donations may be useful for anyone
searching for places to contribute unwanted things, are preparing to or
after a move, following yard sales and if looking for things for your
household and/or your child going to school.  (As of the end of August some
of the non-profits will no longer be able to accept furniture.  It may be
possible to receive a tax deduction for your in-kind donations.

Pennies for Change Thrift Store  489-2681
1826 Chapel Hill Rd.
Re-sale store run by the Durham Crisis Response Center.  The shop also
donates items to victims of domestic & sexual assault.
Desires:  cell phones (in working condition,) linens, dishes, house wares,
electronics, small furniture, CDs, art, lamps, paper products and clothes.

Genesis Home works to end homelessness for families with children, and for
young people, by providing shelter and teaching the life skills that foster
independence. Since 1989, the agency has provided a safe, stable place where
families can come together, rebuild their lives, and prepare for permanent
housing in the community.
Desires: household cleaning items, linens, personal hygiene items, kitchen
utensils, cookware, larger appliances, mattresses, furniture, children¹s
books (new and gently used,) and educational games and toys. NO clothing.

Desires: blankets, clothes (especially underclothes, lingerie, extra large

The goal of Freecycle(tm)is to reduce waste in landfills. Freecycle(tm)
Durham North Carolina is open to local individuals who want to recycle that
special item rather than throw it away. Whether you're looking to discard or
acquire an item, Freecycle(tm)Durham NC is the way to do it, as long as it's
FREE --- no trades or bartering!  The understanding is that the taker will

that are in working order) to be swapped or donated to Durham County dump.
at. The goal of the Swap Shop is to keep as much material out of the
landfill as possible, helping the City to meet its overall waste reduction
goals by extending the useful life of materials. Eligible items include
appliances, tools, toys, house wares and office items.  No clothes.
