Hello all,

The Office of Judicial Affairs has released the fall 2006 report of
off-campus student incidents -- a report requested by local residents. The
overall number reflects a significant decline (about 85%) in cases
adjudicated compared to the fall of 2005. Most of the cases reviewed by
the campus judicial system are referred by Duke Police, which forwards
citations from Durham Police and ALE. Also, reported complaints of house
parties and undesirable student behavior from neighbors and neighborhood
associations were negligible during this period.

The office noted some contributing factors, including:

-- the university's purchase last spring of 12 houses adjacent to East
Campus
-- the likelihood that students acted more responsibly in the aftermath of
the men's lacrosse team party off campus last March
-- the implementation of several new Duke initiatives, achieved with help
from Duke Student Government. These included increased communication with
students regarding community standards and expectations as well as the
partnering with apartment managers to address student behavior.

Stephen Bryan, Assoc. Dean of Students at 684-6938, or Christine Pesetski,
Assist. Dean of Students at 684-6859, would be happy to answer any
questions you might have.

Best wishes,
SK
