2007 Poster Winners Help Celebrate City of Durham’s Drinking Water Month
Statewide Winners Announced at Last Night’s City Council Meeting
Durham, N.C. – Mayor William V. “Bill” Bell and the Durham City Council
recognized three student-artists from local schools at the May 7 Council
meeting. The young artists received certificates from the mayor for their
winning interpretations in the City’s 2007 Water Conservation Poster Contest.
The poster contest, coordinated by the City’s Department of Water
Management, is a part of the City’s annual celebration of Drinking Water Month. The
winning entries were selected from among 65 total entries submitted to the
City. The theme for the contest was “Water – Use it Wisely!”
Winning entries in the grades K-2 division are:
· Brenden Hill, 2nd grade, Morehead Montessori – First Place
· Juliana Miglarese, 2nd grade, Morehead Montessori – Second Place
· Olivia Ingram, 1st grade, Morehead Montessori – Third Place
Winning entries in the grades 3-5 division are:
· Christopher Camitta, 3rd grade, Little River Elementary – First
Place
· Amber McDonald, 3rd grade, Little River Elementary – Second Place
· Elayne Wang, 4th grade, Durham Academy – Third Place
The winning entries represented Durham in a statewide contest sponsored by
the North Carolina Chapter of the American Water Works Association/Water
Environment Association. Competing with student artists from across the state, the
City of Durham is pleased to announce that Brenden Hill won third place at
the State Level, K-2 Division; further, all three City of Durham entries in
the grades 3-5 grade division won at the State Level: Christopher Camiita –
First Place, Amber McDonald – Second Place, and Elayne Wang – Third Place.
The public is invited to view the winning entries, which will be on display
in the lobby of City Hall, 101 City Hall Plaza, through May 18.
