Durham County to mail 6,500 adjusted tax bills

Approximately 6,500 Durham County taxpayers have received tax bills with
incorrect Fire District tax rates.  Those taxpayers affected are in the
Redwood and New Hope Fire Districts.  The affected tax bills were mailed
last week.  The adjusted bills, along with a letter explaining the error,
will be mailed either Friday, August 3rd or Monday, August 6th, to all
those affected.

Citizens who have already paid the original bill will be handled on an
individual basis by tax staff. Those who have not yet paid should
disregard the original bill and pay based on the adjusted bill.  Citizens
have until January 7, 2008 to pay before interest begins.

An error on a spreadsheet led to the error.  Tax Administrator Ken Joyner
apologizes for any inconvenience this has caused.
