City of Durham & County of Durham release...

New Site Helps Define UDO Terms and Explains
Relationships Between Requirements

Residents and developers now have access to a new,
interactive Web site designed to give a better
understanding of the Durham City/County Unified
Development Ordinance (UDO) thanks to efforts by the
Durham City-County Planning Department.

According to Frank Duke, director of Durham
City-County Planning Department, the online version of
the UDO offers several advantages to the printed
version. “Citizens can now browse the UDO from
anywhere in the world,” Duke said. “Interactive links
in the document allows readers to connect effortlessly
between sections and a new feature provides links to
defined terms in the UDO. This tool will be an asset
for Durham because it provides equal access to
development regulations and helps with understanding
the relationships between the various requirements.”

This online development ordinance is patterned on an
earlier version recognized by the American Planning
Association. Staff has worked with consultants to
complete the implementation of an online “hot linked”
version of the UDO now available on the City of
Durham’s Web site at http://www.durhamnc.gov/udo/.
