The Durham County Health Department’s Health Education Division is hosting
its 16th Annual Community AIDS Awareness March and Rally in recognition of
AIDS Awareness Month.  The event will be held rain or shine on Saturday,
October 6, 2007, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Hayti Heritage Center
located at 804 Fayetteville Street in Durham.

The purpose of the event is to increase community awareness and solidarity
in the fight against HIV/AIDS and to foster support for people living with
HIV and AIDS.

The rally will begin at 11:00 a.m. and will feature presentations by Brian
Letourneau, Durham County Health Department’s Health Director and Bill
Bell, Mayor of Durham.  Former Chief of Police, Steve Chalmers, will also
speak, and will introduce the new Chief of Police, Jose Lopez. The program
will include entertainment by local musicians, door prizes and
refreshments.  The event will conclude with a march.
