Another means for saving water
Leaves around the base of outdoor plants maintains moisture in the soil and
decreases the amount of weeds.
Mulch around the base of outdoor plants and potted plants outdoors, as well
as on the surface of the ground, maintains moisture in the soil and
decreases the amount of weeds. Mulch also adds nutrients to the ground.
Pine needles can do the same thing and they are acidic so are especially
beneficially to azaleas and other plants in that family.
