If you haven't already, you should get a copy of the book, "Black & White" by Lewis Shiner. 

The story takes place against the backdrop of Hayti during the years of urban renewal. Other parts of Durham are also covered -- including American Tobacco, Brookwood Inn, VA Hospital, Ninth Street, and Woodrow Street near the City Reservoir. 

Critics call the novel "both a page-turner and an urban documentary with a big, fierce heart."
