Durham Hosts Birchwood Community Center Grand Re-Opening February 25
Newly Renovated Center to Provide Afterschool and Summer Day Camp
Programs

Fast Facts:
* The Birchwood Community Center recently underwent renovations
to upgrade the 4,820-square foot facility, including repairs to
structural deficiencies; replacement of failing heating, ventilation,
and air conditioning (HVAC) systems; repairs to the roof; as well as
Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) upgrades. The renovation began in
August 2008, cost $400,200, and was overseen by the City's Department of
Community Development.
* Some of the speakers at the Grand Re-Opening Ceremony will
include Mayor Pro Tempore Cora Cole-McFadden; City Manager Thomas
Bonfield; Ann Atwater, president of the Birchwood Height Homeowner's
Association; Mike Barros, director of the City's Department of Community
Development; and Rhonda Parker, director of Durham Parks & Recreation.
* Now that the renovation work is complete, Durham Parks &
Recreation will provide afterschool, summer day camp, and other
community-building programs from this facility Monday through Friday.
* In addition to these programs, the Birchwood Height's
Homeowner's Association will also operate an office from the community
center.
* Durham residents and the local news media are invited to this
event.
