Please see the following from City Attorney Karen Sindelar. And PLEASE attend the upcoming City Council meeting (March 2, 7 PM) -- especially if you live in the city (near City Hall) and don't have to drive 20 mins to get there -- and show your support for tougher protections for our streams, creeks, rivers, and lakes.

Apparently, at the prior CC meeting, there were no non-staff or non-development citizens present to show support for this important measure.

I hope to attend this time and would be happy to give any South Durhamites a ride...

____________

If [you] are concerned about the need for tougher stormwater controls on new development in South Durham, you might wish to attend the City Council meeting this coming Monday night, March 2d, and voice your concerns.  The meeting starts at 7 pm.

City stormwater staff has proposed extending the City's current requirements
for new development in the Neuse basin throughout the City to include
those areas within the Jordan basin.  There has been opposition from
developers, in particular from those involved in downtown development.
It is not clear if the regulations will pass as proposed.

At the prior City Council meeting, there were virtually no voices on the
"environmental side" other than City staff.  The proposals do not go as
far as is required under the Jordan Rules but get the City part of the
way towards that goal.  If the Jordan rules on new development pass, the
regulations will have to be further strengthened.

Further information can be obtained from Paul Wiebke or Sandra Wilbur of
the City's stormwater staff.  [Feel free] to contact them with questions.
