2009 Poster Winners Help Celebrate Durham's Drinking Water Month

Statewide Winners Honored at Last Night's City Council Meeting

 

Durham, N.C. - Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell and the Durham City Council
recognized nine student-artists from local schools at the May 4th City
Council meeting for their winning interpretations in the City's 2009
Water Conservation Poster Contest.    

 

As part of the City's annual celebration of Drinking Water Month, the
young artists received certificates from the mayor for their winning
entries in the contest, which is coordinated annually by the City's
Department of Water Management.  The winning entries were selected from
among 181 total entries submitted to the City.  The theme for this
year's contest was "Water Heroes."

 

Winning entries in the Grades K-2 Division were:

*         Eric Wennerstrom, 2nd grade, Morehead Montessori - First Place

*         Fredricka Little, 2nd grade, Lakewood Elementary - Second
Place

*         Isabel Moreno-Jaimes, 2nd grade, Morehead Montessori - Third
Place

 

Winning entries in the Grades 3-5 Division were:

*         Manriki Gagnon, 4th grade, Durham Academy - First Place

*         Kiah M. Stith, 4th grade, Durham Academy - Second Place

*         Olivia Hall, 4th grade, Durham Academy - Third Place

 

Winning entries in the Grades 6-8 Division were:

*         Kevin Schanze, 8th grade, Voyager Academy - First Place

*         Rohniah Bustillo, 8th grade, Voyager Academy - Second Place

*         Brianna Christine Delargy, 8th grade, Voyager Academy - Third
Place

 

These winning entries recently represented Durham in a statewide contest
sponsored by the North Carolina American Water Works/Water Environment
Association.  Competing with student artists from across the state, the
City is pleased to announce that Eric Wennerstrom won third place at the
State Level, K-2 Division; Manriki Gagon, Kiah M. Stith, and Olivia Hall
won first, second, and third place respectively at the State Level, 3-5
Division.  Further, all three City entries also won in the State Level,
6-8 Division: Kevin Schanze - First Place, Rohniah Bustillo - Second
Place, and Brianna Christine Delargy - Third Place.

 

The posters are now on display in the lobby of City Hall and can also be
