Durham 911 Center Receives International Training Accreditation

Durham One of Only Nine Centers Throughout the World to Receive Honor

Durham, N.C. - The Durham Emergency Communications Center (DECC) can add
one more international acclaim to its growing accreditation roster
thanks to its in-house training standards.

The Association of Public Safety Communications Officials International,
Inc. (APCO) has awarded the DECC the APCO Project 33 Certification for
the DECC's training curriculum as meeting APCO's minimum training
standards for public safety telecommunicators.

According to James Soukup, director of the DECC, achieving the APCO
International's Project 33 Training Certification is an honor only a
handful of centers throughout the world can boast. "This accreditation
ensures that our Durham 9-1-1 personnel are trained to the highest
standards and principles of best practice, while providing the best
customer service possible to the people of Durham," Soukup said.

The DECC joins the ranks achieved by only eight other centers throughout
the world, which are the Naperville Police Department, Naperville,IL;
Brevard County Sheriff's Office, Titusville, Fla.; Hamilton County
Department of Communications, Cincinnati, Ohio;
Charlottesville-UVA-Albermarle County ECC, Charlottesville, Va.; Summit
County Communications Center, Frisco, Colo.; Valley Communications
Center, Kent, Wash.; Lincoln Emergency Communications, Lincoln, NE; and
Cedar Rapids Emergency Communications, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

APCO International is a 15,000-member association and is the world's
oldest and largest professional organization dedicated to the
enhancement of public safety communications. To learn more about this
organization, visit www.apcointl.org.
