Fast Facts:
* The City's Department of Public Works is ready to present
conceptual designs showing the location of the proposed roadway
extension for Carver Street from Danube Lane to the intersection of Old
Oxford Highway and Hamlin Road.
* While a formal presentation is not planned, City staff will be
on hand to discuss the project, answer questions, and take note of
comments and concerns at this phase in the project. This is the second
public meeting on this project.
* Due to the volume of traffic in this area, this project is
necessary to increase both the street capacity and make intersection
improvements. The proposed project will construct an extension of
Carver Street from its current intersection with Danube Lane to the
intersection of Old Oxford Highway and Hamlin Road. Currently, it is
anticipated that a three-lane typical cross-section with bike lanes and
sidewalks will be provided. The three-lane typical cross-section would
provide one through lane in each direction and provide a left-turn lane
for existing and future cross streets and driveways. Intersection
improvements at Danube Lane and Old Oxford Highway will also be
included.
* Additional information, including a project map of the area to
be affected by the extension, is available on the City's Web site at
www.durhamnc.gov/departments/works/project_carver_st_ext.cfm.
* For additional information or to submit comments on the
conceptual designs, contact Byron Brady, project manager with the City's
Department of Public Works, at (919) 560-4326, ext. 30296 or via e-mail
at byron.brady at durhamnc.gov.
