New "City Hall This Week" Begins Monday

New Episode Begins Airing Monday, September 28 on Time Warner Cable
Channel 8; 

All Previous Episodes Now "On Demand" on the City's DTV8 Web Site

 

DURHAM, N.C. - The following highlights from the September 21, 2009
Durham City Council meeting and other topics of interest will be
featured in the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."  The show
will begin airing on Monday, September 28 at 1:30 p.m. and will also be
available to watch on demand at 
www.durhamnc.gov/dtv8/CityHallThisWeek.cfm. 

 

Decision Postponed on Public Funding for Neighborhood Revitalization
Project 

*         The City Council is still trying to decide whether it wants to
approve a $175,000 grant for the Mozella McLaughlin Neighborhood
Revitalization Project.  Council members voted 5-2 to postpone their
decision for at least another two weeks.  The project will renovate and
expand the current property at 2520 Fayetteville Street, which is
expected to provide four additional retail/service opportunities. The
funds are being requested in response to a request for proposals by the
City as part of the Neighborhood Revitalization Grant Program.  Office
of Economic and Workforce Development Director Kevin Dick explains why
City staff proposed that the project receive public funds on the
upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."

 

911 Communications Center to Make Important Upgrades

*         The City Council approved two important upgrades for 911
communications in Durham.  The first is for the purchase and maintenance
of a $103,500 database system that will handle automatic location
information for 911.  The second is for an $114,963 upgrade of the 911
recording system.   Durham Emergency Communications Center Director
James Soukup explains why these upgrades are needed on the upcoming
episode of "City Hall This Week."

 

Improvement Project Ready to Begin at North Durham Water Reclamation
Facility

*         A significant improvement project is ready to begin at the
North Durham Water Reclamation Facility.  The City Council approved
using $9.7 million in capital improvement and bond funds to pay for the
project. Civil Engineer Nancy Newell with the Water Management
Department explains what improvements will be made and why they are
needed on the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."

*         Bertha Johnson, director of City's Budget and Management
Services Department - Explains how the City finished its last fiscal
year financially and what that's expected to mean for this year's
outlook. 

 

*         Tanya Spaulding-Hill, manager for the Durham JobLink Career
Center - Explains why the JobLink Mobile Unit has expanded its service
dates and hours at Northgate Mall. 

 

*         Stephen Mancuso, transit administrator for the Durham Area
Transit Authority - Explains how people who own cars in Durham will soon
be giving more financial support to the City's transit system.

 

"City Hall This Week" is a news program dedicated to informing Durham
residents about what is going on inside Durham's City Hall.  Each
edition is taped on the first and third Tuesday of the month - the day
after City Council meetings.  It airs twice a day on Time Warner Cable
