Presentation-Only Tickets Available for State of Durham's Economy Event 

Event Tickets Sold Out; On-Site Ticket Purchases for the Presentation
Only Will Be Available in the DPAC Lobby on March 23

 

What:              12th State of Durham's Economy Breakfast

 

Who:               City of Durham's Office of Economic and Workforce
Development in collaboration with the Greater Durham Chamber of
Commerce, Downtown Durham, Inc., Durham County Government, Durham
Convention & Visitors Bureau, and Duke Energy

 

When:             Tuesday, March 23, 2010, from 7 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.

 

Where:            Durham Performing Arts Center

Fast Facts:

*         It's not too late for citizens interested in an update on
Durham's economic performance to purchase tickets to attend the
presentation-only portion of the event at next week's 12th State of
Durham's Economy Breakfast.

 

*         The breakfast portion of this annual event is currently sold
out.  However, due to overwhelming demand, on-site ticket purchases for
the presentation portion of the event only will be available in the
lobby of the Durham Performing Arts Center from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. at
$25 per ticket.  Cash or check will be the only methods of payment
accepted.

 

*         The program is the City's premiere annual event focused upon
economic and workforce development.  Issues such as employment, tax-base
growth, high-growth industry activity, retail sales, commercial real
estate markets, and wages will be discussed.  

 

*         New for this year's event, a panel discussion with
representatives from high-growth industries will share their
perspectives about how economic recovery opportunities can be seized
locally, as well as how various members of the public and private
sectors can benefit.  

 

o   Panelists include Madhu Beriwal, president and chief executive
officer with IEM; MaryAnn Black, associate vice president for Community
Relations with Duke University Health System; Ryan Allis, chief
executive officer with iContact; Dr. Charles M. Becker, associate
chairman of the Department of Economics with Duke University; and
Antoine Freeman, a graduate of the City's Brownfields Environmental
Technology Job Training Program at Durham Technical Community College.  

 

o   The panel will be moderated by Larry Stogner, anchor with ABC 11
Eyewitness News.

The City of Durham's Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD)
seeks to increase the city's tax base through several revitalization
initiatives, including new development efforts in the central city area.
