County Program Helps Local Homeowners Stay Cooler and Learn about Energy-Saving Measures
March 29, 2010
Durham, NC - Durham County Cooperative Extension offers local residents the opportunity to learn more about the safest and most cost-effective measures to increase the energy efficiency and how to receive discounted home energy audits through its E-Conservation program, administered through the Durham County Cooperative Extension Service.
On April 7, 2010, at 7 p.m., homeowners are invited to a free home energy workshop hosted at the Durham County Cooperative Extension Service, located at 721 Foster Street. E-Conservation Workshop attendees will learn about practices to lower spring and summer cooling bills and save energy in the home. Interested homeowners should register for the E-Conservation Workshop by Monday, April 5.
Homeowners of homes 2000 square feet or less and older than five years, may be eligible to receive a home energy audit at a subsidized price of $100. Audits are normally a $500 service.
A home energy audit consists of an analysis of the home's energy consumption by a certified professional. The auditor identifies measures that can be taken in the home to decrease its energy consumption, improve indoor air quality, and increase comfort throughout the home. The auditor will also identify potential dangers in the home, such as carbon monoxide entering the home. Homeowners must attend the E-Conservation Workshop to receive the subsidized energy audit.
For more information or to register for the E-Conservation Workshop, contact Deborah McGiffin, an extension agent for the Durham County Cooperative Extension Service, at 919-560-0525 or via email at dmcgiffin at durhamcountync.gov.
