Fast Facts:

* The Rolling Hills/Southside Steering Committee and the City of
Durham's Community Development Department are hosting an "Ask the Mayor"
forum to allow residents to speak directly with Mayor William V. "Bill"
Bell regarding the City's efforts to revitalize the Southside community.

* Resident understanding and support is critical to ensure
community needs are met and consensus is built as the City proceeds with
establishing a mixed-income residential community with some retail space
at affordable market rates. The master design plan for this project
encompasses 100 acres around Rolling Hills, which includes the entire
Southside neighborhood, and calls for 350 or more units of housing and
retail space.

o Renewal in the Southside community could also accelerate the
redevelopment of Heritage Square, a shopping center directly across
Lakewood Avenue as well as expedite the redevelopment of Fayette Place,
a 20-acre former public housing site.

* For more information about Rolling Hills and Southside
Redevelopment Project, visit the City's Web site at

Michael Pullum with the City's Community Development Department at (919)
