DURHAM, N.C. - The following highlights from the April 5, 2010 Durham
City Council meeting and other topics of interest will be featured in
the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week." The show will begin
airing on Monday, April 12 and will also be available to watch on-demand

City Considering Significant Changes to Durham's Public Transit System

The City Council approved a Memorandum of Agreement to move forward with
discussions for Triangle Transit to take over the management of the
Durham Area Transit Authority (DATA). Under the terms of the agreement,
the City will continue to be responsible for all costs associated with
operating the Durham transit system, and Triangle Transit would be
responsible for its day-to-day operations. Transportation Department
Director Mark Ahrendsen explains why the change is being considered on
the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."

City Council Adopts Budget Development Guidelines

The City administration now has guidelines in place to help in the
development of the FY 2010-2011 budget. The City Council adopted those
guidelines for the administration to use while prioritizing spending for
next year. The proposed budget will be presented to the City Council in
May. Deputy City Manager Wanda Page explains what some of those
priorities will be on the upcoming episode of "City Hall This Week."

Hillandale Road Widening Project Moves Forward

A significant road widening project is about to make a section of
Hillandale Road more accessible for pedestrians. The project includes
widening the road to a four-lane divided cross section from Front Street
north to Carver Street. It would transition into a two-lane section
near Cammie Street. The City and the North Carolina Department of
Transportation will share the cost of putting in sidewalks for that
section, and the City will assume all ongoing maintenance and liability.
The City Council approved $40,572 for construction of the sidewalks, as
well as $280,156 for relocating water and sewer lines in the area.
